If you have come across web hosting you may have heard the term Ip addresse mentioned a few times. While owning a website itself, does not require you to understand what an Ip address and C-Class Ip address in particular is all about, it never hurts to have a more thorough understanding of how websites work. If you are a more serious website owner, or you wish to know more about Internet marketing then understanding what Ip addresses is all about and having is useful information to know.
In order to put C Class Ip addresses into context, a brief overview of Ip address will be provided. An Ip address is more formally referred to as an Internet Protocol address. What this means is that once a user has typed in the URL of a website, the internet converts this URL into an IP address in order to locate which server that website is being stored on. This is a necessary part of the process as without finding where the actual file for that website is being stored, the website cannot download successful. Usually when a URL is being coverted into a unique IP address, it consists of a 32-bit number that is broken up into four-octets (i.e. 8-bit sections) ranging from numbers 0 – 255; for example 294.365.17.252
Now that a basic understanding of Ip addresses has been laid out, continue reading as the C Class Ip is explained. While class A is reserved for a small number of networks that have a substantially large amount of computers attached to it and class B is used for networks that have an intermediate number of computers attached, class C Ip is the opposite; i.e. a large number of networks that have a limited number of computers or servers attached. Each class will be assigned a certain range of numbers to help identify which class a particular Ip address belongs to. For example, a class C Ip address will have numbers ranging between 192 and 223 as its first octet. The first three octets are usually used to identify the network in question. In other words, 2 080 800 networks or addresses are possible, with each network being able to support 254 computers as a c class Ip address.
This is – although there is naturally a lot more involved – but as a beginner it is important to get to grips with the basics first before going into the process of Ip addresses in more detail. Ip addresses fullfill an important role and help to piece together the process involved from typing in a URL to the loading of the website page, thereby having a clearer understanding of what goes on behind the scenes.
